Manchester United’s Paul Pogba to miss ‘a few weeks’ after injury setback

Injury setback for the Frenchman
Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba will miss a few weeks of action, with manager Ole Gunnar Solskjær confirming the Frenchman is injured again.
Pogba’s name has been in the press a lot lately.
The Frenchman was heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid in the summer transfer window, though a move never came to fruition.
That hasn’t stopped the rumour mill though, with Pogba still being linked with a move away from Old Trafford in the January transfer window.
That’s even despite Pogba’s agent, Mino Raiola, suggesting the player is happy to stay at Manchester United for now.
Pogba’s absence from the team lately hasn’t helped matters either, and now he’s set to be out of the squad for a little while longer.

Pogba set to miss ‘a few weeks’ of action
According to Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjær, Pogba will be out ‘for a few weeks’ due to discomfort in his ankle.
The Frenchman looked like he could be available for Arsenal on Wednesday, but the club confirmed before the game that Pogba had suffered an injury.
“[Pogba]’s injured. He’s feeling some discomfort in his ankle. He’ll be out for a few weeks,” Ole Gunnar Solskjær explained to MUTV.
On a footballing level, that’s a big blow for Manchester United.
Midfield has arguably been their weakest point this season, and with Scott McTominay reportedly being ruled out for eight weeks, this is far from ideal.
This could also only further suggestions of a potential move away from the club this month.

Napoli and Ajax to move for Tottenham’s Jan Vertonghen this month – Telegraph

Will Vertonghen be on the move this month?
Both Napoli and Ajax are targeting a move for Tottenham defender Jan Vertonghen this month, with the Belgian’s contract set to expire in the summer.
Vertonghen has been a mainstay in Tottenham’s side for a while now.
The Belgian was pivotal in Spurs’ run to the Champions League last season, and even played at left-back during the campaign.
However, Vertonghen is yet to agree a new deal with Tottenham and is set to leave the club for nothing in the summer.
That has lead to plenty of exit rumours over the past few months.
Now, both Napoli and former club Ajax are being linked with a move for Vertonghen.

Napoli and Ajax readying moves
According to the Telegraph, both clubs want to sign Vertonghen.
Though, despite the Belgian being available in the summer, both clubs want to sign him this month.
According to their report: ‘Napoli and Ajax are ready to move for Jan Vertonghen and tempt Tottenham into selling the Belgium centre-back before losing him on a free transfer in the summer.’
It’s claimed Gennaro Gattuso is targeting a central defender this summer.
The Telegraph also claim Ajax are ‘assessing their options at centre-back as Daley Blind has been diagnosed with a heart condition.’
As a result, they have seemingly turned to Jan Vertonghen as a potential option.
Finally, it’s claimed that while Vertonghen has been in Mourinho’s plans, there has been no breakthrough in terms of a new contract.

Jurgen Klopp provides Liverpool injury update before Sheffield United

Liverpool vs Sheffield United
Thursday’s only Premier League clash sees Liverpool taking on Sheffield United.
Liverpool will head into the tie with a commanding lead atop of the Premier League.
2nd place Leicester, who won on Wednesday, are 10 points adrift of the Reds with Liverpool also having two games in hand on the Foxes.
The Merseyside powerhouse are also yet to lose a single league game this campaign, drawing just one of their previous 19 PL outings.
However, despite their superb form, Sheffield United should prove a tough test for the European champions.
The recently-promoted outfit have had a superb first half of the season and are even in with a shout of clinching a Europa League spot, come the end of the season.
The Blades have conceded just 19 goals in 20 PL ties this term. Only Liverpool currently boast a better defensive record in the English top-flight this campaign.

Klopp on Liverpool’s injured stars
Ahead of the Sheff United clash, Jurgen Klopp held his pre-match press conference on Wednesday.
During the presser, Klopp gave an update on Liverpool’s injured players.
As can happen around the busy festive period, Liverpool are dealing with a fair few fitness issues.
On Tuesday, Klopp would speak about Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Joel Matip, Fabinho, Xherdan Shaqiri and Dejan Lovren.
The German would confirm that the aforementioned stars are all looking good, however, they are not ready yet:
“[They are] all in a good way but from the longer-term injuries there is nobody back.
“[They] are doing more pitch sessions, running and stuff like that. Ox looks good, Joel looks good, Fabinho looks good, Shaqiri looks good [and] Lovren looks good, but not ready.
“They need still some time, as we said before, so it will be the same group like the last game.” As quoted by Liverpool’s official website.

Jose Mourinho gives update on Harry Kane after Southampton

Tottenham beaten by Southampton
Tottenham would travel to Southampton on Wednesday for their first game of 2020.
Spurs’ away form, particularly in the league, had been pretty abysmal throughout 2019, although Jose Mourinho has improved it a little bit since taking the reins.
However, at St Mary’s, the Lilywhites put on another rather lackluster display.
And it would be Southampton standout Danny Ings who once again fired Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side into the lead with 17 minutes on the clock vs Tottenham.
Spurs would end the tie with more possession and they did have more attempts on target vs the Saints but the North London outfit never really looked very threatening on the day.
As a result of their defeat on Wednesday, Spurs are now six points adrift of 4th place Chelsea who drew with Brighton earlier in the day.
Highlights: Southampton 1-Tottenham 0

Mourinho on Kane
As well as losing ground on their top-four rivals, Spurs were also handed a big blow vs Southampton.
Harry Kane would put the ball into the Southampton net during the second 45 but it was ruled out for offside.
And after he struck the ball for his offside goal, the Englishman then pulled up and had to be withdrawn.

Mourinho would then give an update on Kane after proceedings had drawn to a close on Wednesday.
The Tottenham boss stated it was a problem with Kane’s hamstring but Mourinho was unable to go into much more detail than that:
“It is negative, hamstring is always negative. Is it a tear, is it a small thing, is it a contraction? At this moment I cannot say.” As quoted by football.london.
It has also been reported that Kane left Southampton on crutches

Everton’s Bernard suffers injury during Manchester City warm-up

Blow for Everton
Everton’s Bernard suffered an injury during the warm-up ahead of their clash with Manchester City, with the Brazilian being replaced by Tom Davies.
Everton have had a torrid time with injuries of late.
The Blues have lost several players to injury so far in the current campaign, with Andre Gomes and Jean-Philippe Gbamin missing the majority of the season.
Alex Iwobi has recently been out with an injury, while Fabian Delph has been in and out of the team.
Morgan Schneiderlin is another player who has struggled.
Now, Everton have another problem to contend with after the Manchester City clash.

Bernard suffers warm-up injury at Man City
Bernard was replaced in the starting eleven by Tom Davies, just minutes before the clash with Manchester City.
Bernard was selected to play on the left of midfield, and would likely have been an important player in possession.
However, according to the Liverpool Echo, Bernard suffered a knee injury in the warm-up.
They claim: ‘The Brazilian went down with a left knee injury and looked to be in some considerable pain.’

With that, Everton could really struggle on the left-wing.
With both Iwobi and Bernard out, Everton don’t have a recognised left-winger available.
Richarlison used to play in that position under Marco Silva, but has been seen as a striker by both Duncan Ferguson and Carlo Ancelotti.
Though, if Bernard’s injury is serious, Richarlison may be forced to go wide again.

Tottenham suffer double injury setback & Newcastle’s defensive crisis

Tottenham and Newcastle suffer injury blows
Tottenham’s Tanguy Ndombele and Harry Kane suffered injuries during their game with Southampton, while Newcastle now have a defensive crisis on their hands.
Spurs were beaten by Southampton after a Danny Ings goal secured all three points for the Saints.
Meanwhile, Newcastle suffered a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Leicester City.
Ayoze Perez, Hamza Choudhury and James Maddison were on the scoresheet for the Foxes.
To make things worse for both sides, they suffered big injury blows.

Ndombele & Kane suffer injury setbacks
It’s been a difficult start to life in the Premier League for Tanguy Ndombele.
The Frenchman has looked brilliant when he’s actually played, though that hasn’t been a regular occurrence.
He’d only played 777 minutes for Tottenham before the clash with Southampton, and his game was cut short again today.
Ndombele clashed knees with Moussa Djenepo fairly early on in the game and eventually hobbled off after just 25 minutes.
It was not clear whether his injury was a result of the clash with Djenepo, or a reoccurrence of an old problem.
Harry Kane was then also forced off late in the game.
Having stretched for the ball after a cross into the box, Kane instantly grimaced while holding his hamstring, and was immediately substituted.

Newcastle’s defensive crisis
Newcastle’s clash against Leicester was possibly their worst game of the season.
Not only did they lose the game 3-0, they suffered a boatload of injuries and had the finish the game with ten men.
Firstly, Jetro Willems suffered an injury and had to be replaced by DeAndre Yedlin.
Just a minute later, Javier Manquillo had to be substituted for Emil Krafth after going down injured.
Jonjo Shelvey then had to be replaced at half time due to suspected injury, with Sean Longstaff coming on.
To compound Newcastle’s woes, Fabian Schär then went down injured.
While he attempted to carry on, he would eventually be forced off and, having made all their subs, Newcastle were down to 10 men.
It was simply not Newcastle’s day.

Jamie Vardy a doubt for Wigan FA Cup clash after pre-Newcastle injury

Bad news for Leicester
Jamie Vardy missed the clash with Newcastle due to an injury he sustained in training this week, and is a doubt for the game against Wigan this weekend.
Vardy has been in fine form this season.
The Englishman has scored an impressive 17 goals in 19 games so far in the Premier League this season.
That incredible record sees him top the goalscoring charts in England’s top flight, four goals ahead of second place.
At the time of writing, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Danny Ings are the two players that trail him.
That form has contributed massively to Leicester’s form this season, with the Foxes second in the Premier League table and above Manchester City.
Though, they will have to do without their star man when they face off against Wigan this weekend in the FA Cup.

Vardy misses Newcastle clash, doubt for Wigan
As revealed by the Leicester Mercury, Jamie Vardy was ruled out of the Newcastle game with a tight hamstring.
They report: ‘The City striker suffered the problem in training this week and has had a scan on the issue, which, while not serious, could also keep him out of the FA Cup clash with Wigan on Saturday.’
Ayoze Perez and Kelechi Iheanacho featured up front for Leicester in Vardy’s absence.
Leicester also play Aston Villa in the Premier League next Wednesday, and the real concern will turn to that game.
While missing out against Wigan isn’t a big deal, Vardy missing a Premier League clash could be very detrimental to Leicester’s chances of winning the game.

Man United fear Scott McTominay could face 8 weeks on sidelines – Mail

As per a report from the Daily Mail, Manchester United are concerned that midfielder Scott McTominay could be sidelined for as long as 8 weeks, after picking up knee ligament damage.
United down Burnley
The Red Devils travelled to Burnley this past weekend, for the club’s latest Premier League outing.
United headed into proceedings with spirits high, having bounced back from a shock defeat to Watford with a 4-1 drubbing of Newcastle 2 days prior.
And, when all was said and done on Saturday, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men continued to roll.
Goals from Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford eventually saw the Manchester giants depart Turf Moor with an impressive 2-0 win.

McTominay concern
United’s victory at Burnley was made all the more impressive by the fact that it came with a pair of the club’s key performers having been absent.
The pair in question were Paul Pogba and Scott McTominay.
Pogba missed out as the World Cup winner continues to struggle with a long-standing ankle problem, which has restricted the Frenchman to just 2 appearances since the end of September.
McTominay, meanwhile, has been confined to the sidelines since picking up a knee injury versus Newcastle last week.
Speaking on the back of his side’s win over the Magpies, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer provided the following update on McTominay, suggesting that the Scot was likely set for a little under a month out of action:
‘He has proven before that if you give him three weeks, he’s back in two! So, I don’t know. It might be three or four weeks. We’ve just got to find a way through it.’
As per the aforementioned update courtesy of the Daily Mail, though, fears are spreading at Old Trafford that McTominay is in fact set for a considerably longer spell on the sidelines.
Follow-up scans are said to have confirmed damage to the ligaments in the midfielder’s knee.
As a result, United’s medical team have placed a timeframe of around 8 weeks on McTominay’s return to the pitch.

Mino Raiola aims incredible dig at Man United: ‘I wouldn’t take anyone there. They would ruin Maradona & Pele’

Super-agent Mino Raiola has today taken aim at Manchester United in an altogether-bizarre rant, accusing those in charge at Old Trafford of being ‘out of touch with reality’.
United miss out on Haaland
Raiola of course represents some of world football’s biggest stars, including the likes of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Matthijs De Ligt, and, significantly, Paul Pogba.
Another of the Dutchman’s clients, meanwhile, was heavy-linked with a move to Manchester United of late.
The player in question was Erling Braut Haaland.
Teenage sensation Haaland has proven one of the talking points of the European season so far.
After racking up a staggering 28 goals and 7 assists across 22 appearances over the early months of the campaign, the Norwegian was unsurprisingly targeted by a number of European football’s heavyweights.
Chief among the clubs touted as a potential destination for the striker, meanwhile, were Manchester United.
The Red Devils were even said to have placed Haaland atop the club’s January transfer wishlist.
In the end, however, in something of a blot from the blue, it was confirmed on Sunday that the teen had put pen-to-paper on a deal with German giants Borussia Dortmund.

Borussia Dortmund have completed the signing of Erling Braut Håland from @RedBullSalzburg on a contract until 2024! pic.twitter.com/C9ilU0u0dt
— Borussia Dortmund (@BlackYellow) December 29, 2019

Speaking on the back of his latest high-profile client’s first big-money move, though, Mino Raiola was keen to assure that the decision to turn down Manchester United was simply down to a Premier League switch ‘not being the right step’ in Haaland’s fledgling career:
‘Clearly he felt that at this moment it was not the right step in his career. There is nothing against Manchester United or Ole.’
‘When you are 19 then maybe you prefer not to go to the Premier League.’
‘Wouldn’t take anyone there’
Raiola’s latest comments, though, paint an altogether different picture of his feelings towards the Red Devils.
During an interview with Italian outlet La Repubblica earlier today, the outspoken 52-year-old contradicted his previous claims regarding Haaland, assuring that he ‘wouldn’t take anyone’ to Old Trafford:
‘I wouldn’t take anyone there. They would even ruin [Diego] Maradona, Pele and [Paolo] Maldini.’
Raiola then went on to discuss another of his clients, who is currently plying his trade with Manchester United.
The individual in question is of course World Cup winner Paul Pogba.
Just yesterday, despite the widespread speculation surrounding the Frenchman’s future, Raiola insisted that Pogba would not be on the move next month:
‘Paul has always respected Manchester United just as Manchester United has also always respected Paul.’
‘I go by what he [Solskjaer] says. He [Pogba] will not move, and that’s okay. We are good with them.’
Today, though, Raiola has claimed that the Manchester giants are ‘out of touch with reality’, and that Pogba ‘needs a squad’ similar to the one he previously lined out as part of at Juventus:
‘Pogba’s problem is Manchester United. It’s a club out of touch with reality and without a sporting project.’
‘Paul needs a club and a squad, one like Juventus was before.’

Bruno Fernandes admits he wanted summer Spurs move: ‘Fit into everything I wish I had’

Sporting CP star Bruno Fernandes has revealed that he was ‘eager’ to make the move to Premier League giants Tottenham during the summer.
Sporting standout
25-year-old Fernandes has emerged as one of Portuguese football’s star performers over the last couple of seasons.
The former Udinese and Sampdoria man possesses all of the key traits of a modern attacking midfielder, combining a keen eye for goal, set-piece prowess, creative flair and a penchant for the spectacular.
Across all competitions last season, Fernandes racked up a spectacular 29 goals and 17 assists.
PL links
As a result, it subsequently came as little surprise to see a whole host of top European clubs named as keen suitors of the Sporting star this past summer.
Manchester City were first rumoured to have been on the verge of clinching a deal for the midfielder, before Premier League rivals Manchester United, Liverpool and Tottenham were all also touted as potential destinations.

Bit of Bruno Fernandes detail. His agent, Miguel Pinho, met with #THFC y’day. Fernandes & Lo Celso Spurs’ midfield targets. #MUFC, who met Pinho 2 months ago, asked him in past fortnight for some more time as they focus first on signing a RB (Wan-Bissaka) https://t.co/s2XCpyzQYX
— James Ducker (@TelegraphDucker) June 20, 2019

In the end, however, a transfer failed to come to fruition for Fernandes, with the 25-year-old having since gone on to pen a new deal at the José Alvalade Stadium.
‘A good time to leave’
If Fernandes had had his way, though, he would in fact have moved on earlier this year.
When questioned on the summer saga surrounding his name earlier today, the midfielder admitted that he had his heart set on joining one club in particular.
The outfit in question? Tottenham.
Speaking during an interview with Portuguese outlet Record, Fernandes revealed that Spurs ‘fit into everything’ he had been looking for in his career:
‘In the summer I thought I could go out. I believed it was a good time to leave due to many factors. I made the best time of my career to date.’
‘After the UEFA Nations League, there were already many contacts, especially with Tottenham. It was the team that wanted me the most and was the only one I agreed to talk with, because there were other clubs that didn’t interest me or whose project was not up to my expectations.’
‘Tottenham fit into everything I wish I had at that moment. It is an appealing championship. Knowing that Tottenham would be willing to pay for me and make every possible effort to take me, leaves a player eager to take that step.’

Chris Wilder with the latest on FPL favourite Lundstram ahead of Liverpool

Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder has provided an update on the fitness of John Lundstram, ahead of his side’s meeting with Liverpool.
Liverpool vs Sheffield United
The Blades are set to visit Jurgen Klopp’s table-topping Reds on Thursday night, in a Premier League clash.
Sheffield United are no doubt well aware that they face an uphill task if they hope to emerge from Anfield with any form of return.
Liverpool have dropped just 2 points all season to this point, and, despite having played a game less than the chasing pack, sit a hefty 13 points clear atop the English top-flight.
Chris Wilder’s men, though, have enjoyed a fine campaign of their own thus far.
The Blades’ defeat to Manchester City at the weekend saw them slip from the dizzying heights of 5th to a nevertheless-impressive 8th in the Premier League table.

Lundstram latest
If Sheffield United hope to get things back on track with a positive result at Anfield in 2 days’ time, though, they will no doubt require as close to a fully fit squad as possible.
As such, speaking in a press conference this evening ahead of his side’s next outing, Chris Wilder was asked for an update on the wellbeing of John Lundstram.
Versatile midfielder Lundstram has enjoyed a superb campaign to this point, solidifying himself as an automatic first-choice in not only the Blades’ XI, but also the line-ups of Fantasy Premier League players the world over.
However, the 25-year-old missed his side’s defeat to Man City after failing a late fitness test.
Chris Wilder, though, confirmed that Lundstram was set to return to full training today, with his potential involvement versus Liverpool to be based on how well or not he came through the session.

Paul Pogba absent from Man United squad to face Arsenal – MEN

As per a report from the Manchester Evening News, Paul Pogba is not part of the Manchester United squad that has travelled to take on Arsenal.
Arsenal vs Man United
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men are set to return to action tomorrow night, with a high-profile trip to the Emirates.
The Red Devils will head into proceedings with spirits high, on the back of an impressive result last time out.
United followed up a 4-1 drubbing of Newcastle 2 days prior with an impressive 2-0 victory over Burnley at Turf Moor on Saturday.
Arsenal, on the other hand, saw their frankly-abysmal recent stretch of form continue, with a 2-1 defeat at home to Chelsea.

The Gunners have now managed just a solitary victory in their last 15 fixtures across all competitions.
Pogba misses out
Arsenal’s hopes of turning things around tomorrow night, though, have this evening been handed a boost.
This comes in the form of an update on Manchester United’s travelling squad.
The reliable Manchester Evening News have revealed that one of the Red Devils’ star men was not present with the rest of the club’s squad that boarded a train to London a short time ago.
The absent individual? Paul Pogba.
French midfielder Pogba only recently returned from a lengthy spell on the sidelines with an ankle injury.
The 26-year-old, though, was not part of the Manchester United squad that put Burnley to the sword on Saturday night.
And, based on the MEN’s update, Pogba looks set to miss his 2nd-straight outing, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s 21-man squad to take on Arsenal showcased below:
David de Gea, Sergio Romero, Lee Grant, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof, Phil Jones, Brandon Williams, Ashley Young, Luke Shaw, Nemanja Matic, Fred, Andreas Pereira, Jesse Lingard, Daniel James, Juan Mata, Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial, Mason Greenwood, Tahith Chong, Angel Gomes

Solskjaer claims Man United were ‘knocked emotionally’ by Jack Grealish’s Aston Villa opener

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has this evening surprisingly claimed that his side suffered an ’emotional’ blow upon Jack Grealish finding the net during the Red Devils’ meeting with Aston Villa.
United held
Solskjaer’s men welcomed Villa to Old Trafford a short time ago, for a Premier League clash.
United headed into proceedings amid a mini-slump over the last week, having first been thoroughly outplayed en route to a 3-3 draw at Sheffield United, before falling to a 2-1 defeat at Astana in the Europa League on Thursday night.
As such, the hosts were no doubt keen to get things back on track with a victory earlier today.
When all was said and done, however, the Manchester powerhouse’s winless streak stretched to 3 games.
An entertaining 90 minutes saw Villa earn a share of the spoils, in a 2-2 draw.
After a Tom Heaton own goal and Victor Lindelof’s finish either side of half-time saw United overturn an early deficit, it looked as though the Red Devils were set to push on towards all 3 points.
Aston Villa, though, stood tall in the face of adversity, soon pulling level through Tyrone Mings.
And this was all she wrote in terms of the goalscoring at Old Trafford, as the hosts’ recent struggles continued.
Highlights: Man United 2-2 Aston Villa

Fragile United?
On the back of his side’s latest disappointing result, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was drawn on United’s performance versus Villa during a post-match interview with beIN Sports.
The Norwegian tactician revealed his opinion that his side were actually ‘lucky’ not to head into the break a goal down.
Somewhat surprisingly, meanwhile, Solskjaer also suggested that the Manchester giants were ‘knocked emotionally’ by Jack Grealish’s stunning opener, seemingly hinting at mental fragility within the United ranks:
‘It [Grealish’s goal] knocked us a bit emotionally. I think we didn’t settle in the game and we were lucky to go in at half-time one each.’

Freddie Ljungberg on decision to leave Nicolas Pepe on bench in Arsenal’s draw at Norwich
Frank Lampard pushing Chelsea to lock Willian down before January window – Standard

Arsenal experiencing longest winless run in a single Premier League season since 1994

Arsenal held by Norwich
Arsenal’s first game of the post-Unai Emery era saw them travel to Norwich on Sunday.
Freddie Ljungberg would be the man in the Arsenal dugout at Carrow Road after he was appointed interim boss on Friday.
Ljungberg probably couldn’t have asked for a much easier tie as Norwich began Sunday sat 19th in the English top-flight.
However, the Gunners didn’t get the afternoon they were likely hoping for as Teemu Pukki ended his goal drought to fire the Canaries into the lead 21 minutes in on Sunday.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang did pull one back for Arsenal from the spot just eight minutes later.
But another one of Norwich’s standout stars this season Todd Cantwell would once again give Norwich the lead shortly before the interval.
Aubameyang would once again come to Arsenal’s rescue though, salvaging the North London outfit a 2-2 draw.
Highlights: Norwich 2-Arsenal 2

Arsenal winless in six
The draw with relegation-battling Norwich kept Arsenal 8th in the Premier League and a fair way away from a Champions League spot.
And after being held by Norwich, a rather concerning stat has come to light.
Arsenal are now eight games without a win across all competitions this term.
The Gunners are also six games without a win in the Premier League. And according to Opta, Arsenal have not gone six PL games without a win in a single season since December of 1994 when they were managed by George Graham.

Eddie Howe Everton’s top choice to replace Marco Silva – Mirror

Everton beaten by Leicester
Everton traveled to Leicester City on Sunday as they looked to put and an end to their poor run of form.
The Toffees’ previous outing saw them comprehensively beaten 2-0 by relegation-battling Norwich City last weekend.
As a result, Everton began Sunday just two points adrift of the relegation zone.
But Everton’s fortunes did look to be turning around at the King Power when Richarlison fired Marco Silva’s side into the lead with 23 minutes gone.
However, Everton were unable to hold onto their lead.
Kelechi Iheanacho was brought on by Brendan Rodgers 62 minutes in vs Everton and the forward had a huge impact on the tie.
Iheanacho would assist Jamie Vardy just six minutes after coming on.
The Nigerian then scored an injury-time winner, after VAR ruled he was not offside.
The Foxes are now back up to 2nd in the English top-flight and are Liverpool’s closest challengers for the title.
Highlights: Leicester 2-Everton 1

Howe to replace Silva?
As for Everton, they have slipped down to 17th in the PL table and have won just once in their last five league outings.
After blowing a lead vs Leicester, could Marco Silva be the latest managerial casualty?
The Mirror reported on Saturday evening that Everton want Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe to succeed Marco Silva at Everton.
The report from the Mirror claims that Howe is Everton’s number one target with the Cherries’ boss previously admitting he was an Everton fan from a young age:
“I was a passionate Everton fan as a kid. It was always my dream to go to Goodison as a child. I never got there until later in life.” As quoted by the Mirror.

Frank Lampard pushing Chelsea to lock Willian down before January window – Standard

As per a report from James Olley of the Evening Standard, Chelsea boss Frank Lampard is urging the club to tie Willian down to a new deal before the turn of the year.
Chelsea stint
31-year-old winger Willian has been on the books of Chelsea since 2013, when he made the move to Stamford Bridge from Russian outfit Anzhi Makhachkala.
And the gifted South American has since gone on to establish himself as a key contributor for the Blues, racking up over 300 appearances across his 6+ seasons in London.
The 2017/18 campaign proved particularly fruitful for the former Shakhtar Donetsk man, with Willian having notched 13 goals and 12 assists in 55 outings across all competitions.
The Lampard effect
However, despite the 70-time capped international’s near ever-present role for the capital outfit, large sections of Chelsea’s fanbase have never truly taken to Willian.
The Corinthians youth product’s inconsistencies last season, meanwhile, often saw him singled out for heavy criticism.
This subsequently saw Willian hotly-tipped for a move to Spanish giants Barcelona over the summer.
In the end, however, Chelsea warded off all interest in their attacker’s signature.
And the early months of the current campaign have since seen the Blues reap the benefits of their decision.

Willian has looked vastly-improved, amid a consistent run of appearances under Frank Lampard.
The experienced wide-man has been handed a new lease of life by the club legend, looking reinvigorated, dangerous in front of goal and, crucially, fully committed to the Chelsea cause.
Lampard pressuring Chelsea board
Willian’s contract, though, is actually due to expire in less than 12 months’ time.
This has resulted in the speculation surrounding his future once again ramping up of late.
Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo last month suggested that the Brazilian is in ‘no hurry’ to pen a new deal at Stamford Bridge, with it his ‘dream’ to join Barcelona.

Hola, aquí os dejamos la portada de este lunes #portada #deporte https://t.co/1KnhxPK7Mq pic.twitter.com/5FVnrN6seV
— Mundo Deportivo (@mundodeportivo) November 17, 2019

One individual who certainly appears keen to have Willian commit his future to Chelsea, though, is Frank Lampard.
As per the aforementioned report from the Evening Standard:
‘Lampard is not directly involved in contract negotiations but offers his recommendations to director Marina Granovskaia, in addition to technical and performance director Petr Cech. In this case, he has told the pair he wants Willian to stay.’

The Blues boss is also said to be eager to have Willian’s future sorted before the turn of the year.
This is to rule out the possibility of the attacker reaching a pre-contract agreement with another club, ahead of a summer transfer.

Freddie Ljungberg on decision to leave Nicolas Pepe on bench in Arsenal’s draw at Norwich

Interim Arsenal boss Freddie Ljungberg was this evening drawn on his decision not to utilise Nicolas Pepe during his side’s draw with Norwich earlier today.
Norwich 2-2 Arsenal
The Gunners travelled to Carrow Road a short time ago, for the club’s first outing following Unai Emery’s dismissal.
Freddie Ljungberg took charge of Arsenal for the clash, with Per Mertesacker the Swede’s right-hand man.
The visitors no doubt viewed Norwich as the ideal opponent to get the post-Emery era up and running, with the Canaries having sat in a lowly 19th in the Premier League table ahead of kick-off.
When the 90 minutes were said and done, however, Arsenal again failed to get the job done.
Despite Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s brace, Norwich goals from Teemu Pukki and Todd Cantwell eventually saw the shares spoiled at Carrow Road.

— William Hill (@WilliamHill) December 1, 2019

Arsenal are now winless in their last 8 fixtures across all competitions.
Pepe snubbed
The final half-hour of this afternoon’s clash actually saw Norwich enjoy the better of the chances, with Bernd Leno having been forced into a number of fine saves.
Arsenal, on the other hand, looked laboured and lacking in ideas in the attacking 3rd following Aubameyang’s 57th-minute equaliser, with the likes of Mesut Ozil and Alexandre Lacazette having majorly struggled.
As such, many understandably called for Nicolas Pepe to be introduced off the bench, in an attempt to add some pace and guile to the Gunners’ frontline.
Freddie Ljungberg, though, opted against such a move, instead bringing on youngster Bukayo Saka.
The interim Arsenal boss was therefore inevitably drawn on his decision not to afford big-money summer signing Pepe the opportunity to turn things around at Carrow Road, with Ljungberg having subsequently explained:
‘Pepe is a very good player. But I looked at what we did in training and what I see every day and that is how I judge it.’
The Swedish tactician continued:
‘I am going to judge them on training and their games.’
‘What I saw in the first 30 minutes and the belief and how we played that was good. Offensively that was good.’
‘I don’t know if you saw it but when we went 1-0 down, the players weren’t shaking their heads, they were actually going ‘come on guys we can sort this out’. That shows they believe they are quality players.’
‘We need to change a negative trend plus, with our run that was a difficult game and the players did really well.’

Daniel Farke claims Arsenal’s 2nd goal vs Norwich should have been ruled out

Norwich City manager Daniel Farke has this evening revealed his opinion that Arsenal’s 2nd equaliser versus his side shouldn’t have stood.
Aubameyang spares Arsenal blushes
The Canaries welcome Arsenal to Carrow Road earlier today, for a Premier League clash.
Norwich headed into proceedings on the back of a morale-boosting result last time out, which saw Farke’s men move off the bottom of the table courtesy of a 2-0 win at Everton.
Their opponents this afternoon, on the other hand, were winless in 7 across all competitions, and taking to the pitch for the first time since the sacking of Unai Emery earlier this week.
And, when all was said and done, Arsenal’s run without a victory stretched to 8 outings, as the shares were spoiled at Carrow Road.
Norwich twice took the lead in the clash, courtesy of Teemu Pukki and Todd Cantwell.
On both occasions, though, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang levelled things up, to secure a hard-fought point for Arsenal.
Highlights: Norwich 2-2 Arsenal

Farke not happy
Arsenal’s 2nd of the evening, with 57 minutes on the clock, came following a corner to the back post.
After Norwich failed to clear the danger, the ball fell to Aubameyang, who went on to lash home beyond Tim Krul in typically-clinical fashion.
Canaries boss Daniel Farke, though, has since revealed his opinion that the goal actually should’ve been ruled out.
Seconds before Aubameyang found the net, another ball made its way onto the pitch, bouncing across the opposite side of the hosts’ box.
And, as a result, Farke feels as though the corner should have been retaken:

It should be noted that a 2nd ball landing on the pitch actually only came as a result of Norwich’s fans returning it to play as Arsenal’s corner was taken.

Aston Villa dealt Anwar El Ghazi injury blow vs Man United

Manchester United vs Aston Villa
Aston Villa traveled to Manchester United on Sunday as they looked to build on their 2-0 win over Newcastle earlier this week.
Man United haven’t had the most emphatic start to the season but they have been a lot better at home this season.
Villa began the day within touching distance of the relegation zone but a win over the Red Devils could have seen them move up to 12th in the English top-flight.
As for Manchester United, they could have moved all the way up to 5th, should they have emerged with all three points.
However, things didn’t get off to a great start for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and co as Jack Grealish fired Aston Villa in front with 11 minutes on the clock.

Marcus Rashford would eventually draw Man United level with three minutes of normal time left to play in the first half.
As well as failing to maintain their advantage, Dean Smith’s side suffered another blow in the opening 45 at Old Trafford.
Anwar El Ghazi has been one of Villa’s standout stars this campaign, scoring three and assisting three in 12 PL appearances before facing Man United.
El Ghazi also set up Grealish’s opener on Sunday.
However, the Villa winger picked up an injury 18 minutes in vs United and had to be replaced by David Trezeguet.

Patrick Vieira speaks out over links to Arsenal manager’s job

Former Arsenal midfielder Patrick Vieira has opened up on the rumours that he could be the man chosen to take up the reins at the Emirates, following Unai Emery’s sacking.
Emery out
The news that Gunners fans across the globe had been waiting for finally arrived on Friday morning.
A Europa League group stage defeat at the hands of Eintracht Frankfurt the night prior proved the straw that broke the camel’s back when it came to Unai Emery’s time in charge at the Emirates, as the Spaniard was officially relieved of his duties by the Arsenal hierarchy:
‘We announce today that the decision has been taken to part company with our head coach Unai Emery and his coaching team.’
‘The decision has been taken due to results and performances not being at the level required.’

Club statement: Unai Emery

‘A very complicated job’
Club legend Freddie Ljungberg, meanwhile, has since been handed the role of interim boss in north London.
Arsenal’s initial statement on Emery’s sacking, though, also confirmed that ‘the search for a new head coach is underway’, suggesting Swedish tactician Ljungberg is not viewed as a potential answer to the club’s long-standing problems in the dugout.
As a result, a number of high-profile managerial targets have already been touted in the media in the days since Emery’s sacking.
One of those linked, meanwhile, has been another former Arsenal star, in the form of Patrick Vieira.
Frenchman Vieira is currently in charge of Ligue 1 outfit Nice, but was today drawn on the possibility of taking over at the Emirates.
The legendary midfielder, though, was keen to keep his cards close to his chest:
‘There are things I don’t control, people who say a lot of stuff, which is true or not true.’
‘I didn’t say anything, I didn’t say anything about that. I’m like you, I read, I look, I hear things, and that’s it.’
‘It’s a very complicated job, I realise that. I support Emery. It’s always sad to see a coach losing his job.’
‘Today it’s him, tomorrow it might be me. But as soon as you decide to start in this job, you have to expect to be fired at some point.’

West Ham’s David Martin reveals he struggled to eat in days leading up to Chelsea clash

West Ham win at last
West Ham have been in dismal form of late.
Prior to facing Chelsea on Saturday, the Hammers were without a league win in seven attempts.
And given how well Chelsea have been playing recently, especially going forward, a West Ham win on Saturday did seem somewhat unlikely.
But Chelsea’s attacking threat was pretty subpar vs Manuel Pellegrini’s men, perhaps due to the absence of Tammy Abraham.
Aaron Creswell would eventually fire West Ham into the lead shortly after the interval. And despite Chelsea’s best efforts, they were unable to penetrate a previously shaky West Ham defence.
Highlights: Chelsea 0-West Ham 1

Martin’s debut
As well as failing to amass a victory in their previous seven ties, West Ham had also failed to keep a single clean sheet in said games.
Part of the reason for this may have been due to the poor displays of Roberto who was covering for an injured Lukasz Fabianski.
However, Pellegrini seemingly grew tired of Roberto’s errors and chose to hand 33-year-old David Martin his West Ham senior debut vs Frank Lampard’s side.
Martin has since spoken about his debut, stating he was struggling to eat during the days before the clash:
“It doesn’t feel real; I’m 33 now, I’ve had a decent career, I’ve played quite a few games but it still doesn’t prepare you coming into this game.
“I’ve been struggling to eat for the last two days. Cress (Aaron Cresswell) was laughing at me because my plate kept being taken away and I couldn’t finish my food.
“When I saw my dad we were both in tears, so we didn’t actually say a lot.
“But for my dad to see that here with the club he played for for 21 years, to make my debut, keep a clean sheet and get the win for the boys more importantly, it’s just a fantastic feeling.” As quoted by the Evening Standard.

The stats behind Dele Alli’s impressive display for Tottenham vs Bournemouth

Tottenham see off Bournemouth
Jose Mourinho took charge of his third game as Tottenham boss on Saturday.
Tottenham would play host to Bournemouth as they looked to secure their 3rd successive win in all competitions.
The North London outfit hit the ground running on Saturday with Dele Alli firing them in front with 21 minutes on the clock.
Alli would double his and Tottenham’s tally for the day 50 minutes in.
Moussa Sissoko then made it 3-0 to Spurs with 69 minutes played.
The Cherries did look as though they could earn something from the tie with Harry Wilson bagging himself a brace late on but it was too little too late.
Highlights: Tottenham 3-Bournemouth 2

Alli impresses for Spurs
Spurs have now won three out of three under Mourinho’s guidance.
But one man that seems to be benefiting the most from the arrival of the former Chelsea and Manchester United boss is Dele Alli.
The Englishman put in a stellar display in Mourinho’s debut game vs West Ham, providing an assist.
Alli then scored one vs Olympiacos and as mentioned above, bagged himself two on Saturday.
And Squawka has since showcased all the key stats behind Alli’s standout display vs Bournemouth.
When facing Eddie Howe’s side Alli would record the most take-ons (8), the most recoveries (8), the most shots (5), the most shots on target (3),  and the most goals (2).
Alli’s eight take-ons vs Bournemouth were also the most by a Spurs player in a Premier League game in over three years.

Dele Alli completed eight take-ons against Bournemouth, the most by a Spurs player in a Premier League game in over three years (Son Heung-Min vs. Boro in Sep 2016, 9).

Watford could hire Chris Hughton after sacking Flores – Guardian

Watford sack Flores
Watford have had a torrid start to the 2019/20 campaign.
The Hornets began the season with Javi Gracia as their head coach.
But after a poor start to the season from Gracia, Watford decided to put their faith in an old boss to try and stave off relegation.
However, Quique Sanchez Flores had a dismal second spell with Watford, which saw the Spaniard win just one of his 10 league ties this term.
And after Watford were dealt another defeat by fellow relegation battlers Southampton on Saturday evening, it seems the club’s higher-ups ran out of patience with Flores.
Watford would confirm on Sunday afternoon that Flores has left the club.
The Hornets’ Chairman & CEO Scott Duxbury had this to say on the incident:
“Quique is a man of great integrity and it was clear how much he wanted to have a positive impact, but ultimately results have dictated our decision.
“The appointment of a new Head Coach is imminent, and with nearly two-thirds of the season remaining, we will provide all the support necessary to make the coming months successful.” As quoted by Watford’s official website.

Hughton to Watford?
Watford are now six points away from safety. And should Everton and Aston Villa get results later today, that gap will be extended further.
So, Watford really need to choose their next managerial appointment carefully.
And according to The Guardian, one man Watford could give the job to is former Brighton boss, Chris Hughton.
As per The Guardian, Watford are believed to have started interviewing candidates last week and it is thought that Hughton has a good chance of being given the job.

Alisson set to miss Liverpool’s Merseyside derby meeting with Everton

Liverpool’s win over Brighton this afternoon came at a cost, as the Reds lost first-choice shot-stopper Alisson to suspension.
Liverpool hang on
Jurgen Klopp’s men welcomed the Seagulls to Anfield a short time ago, for a Premier League clash.
The hosts headed into proceedings sitting pretty atop the English top-flight table.
In addition, after Manchester City stuttered to a 2-2 draw at Newcastle earlier this afternoon, Liverpool were aware that a win over Brighton would see them open up a hefty 11-point advantage over the champions.
And, when all was said and done, secure yet another 3 points was precisely what the Merseysiders managed.
A first-half double from Virgil van Dijk eventually proved telling, as Lewis Dunk’s late free-kick in the end proved little more than a consolation for visitors Brighton.

Alisson blow
However, it was not all positive news for Liverpool at Anfield this afternoon.
Dunk’s strike, 10 minutes from time, came after a change between the posts for the Reds.
After a lofted ball over the top of the hosts’ backline set Leandro Trossard free, the Brighton substitute attempted to lob the onrushing Alisson.
In a moment of madness, Liverpool’s no.1, though, opted to block Trossard’s effort with his hand, despite having been well outside his box.
As such, following a VAR review, Alisson was deservedly given his marching orders by referee Martin Atkinson.
And this rush of blood on the part of the former Roma man has proven costly for the European champions.
Alisson’s dismissal is set to see the shot-stopper suspended for one match, which just so happens to come in the form of a Merseyside derby meeting with Everton in 4 days’ time.

Arsenal confirm Per Mertesacker will be supporting Ljungberg during his stint as interim boss

Emery sacked
Arsenal would part ways with Unai Emery on Friday the 29th of November.
After a poor showing vs Eintracht Frankfurt on Thursday evening, which Arsenal lost 2-1, the Gunners are now seven games without a win across all competitions, a stat which the Arsenal hierarchy seemingly weren’t too keen on.
After sacking Emery, the North London outfit confirmed that Freddie Ljungberg would be made interim boss whilst they search for Emery’s successor.

As for Arsenal, they started Saturday 8th in the league with an eight-point gap open between themselves and 4th place Chelsea.

James Milner reveals how he nearly signed for Everton

It could have been very different for Milner
Liverpool midfielder James Milner has revealed he nearly signed for rivals Everton when he was a youth player but a trial fell through.
Milner has had an illustrious career in the Premier League, with his most successful days coming with Manchester City and Liverpool.
The Englishman won several trophies during his time at the Etihad, including two Premier League titles.
Milner then joined Liverpool and was part of their Champions League-winning team squad last season.
Though, Milner has now revealed that he could have signed for Liverpool’s rivals Everton in his youth.

“The first club that showed an interest was Everton”
In his new book ‘Ask a Footballer’, as cited by the Liverpool Echo, Milner revealed that he had a trial set up with Everton.
However, due to snow, the game was called off and the Toffees never called him after that.
“The first club that showed an interest was Everton,” Milner explained.
“I might even have ended up signing for them if my trial hadn’t been called off because of snow.
“I played a district match in Crosby and I was told afterwards an Everton scout had been watching and wanted me to go on trial.
“That was the first time I had even thought about the possibility of being a footballer, but then the trial game got called off because of snow.
“We kept waiting for another phone call, but it never came, so I thought my chance might have come and gone.”
Safe to say, Everton missed a trick by not maintaining their interest.

Liverpool set to sign Nike deal as New Balance fail in kit appeal – Joyce

Change is coming at Anfield
Liverpool will have Nike as their official kit supplier next season after New Balance’s attempts to appeal a High Court verdict over their kit deal was rejected.
A deal with Nike was reported months ago when it was suggested a deal could take place.
However, the terms with current kit supplier New Balance made agreeing a deal with Nike difficult.
That eventually lead to a court battle, in which New Balance hoped to remain as Liverpool’s kit supplier.
After initially having their case rejected, New Balance then attempted to appeal the verdict.
Now, a decision has been made over the appeal and it’s good news for Liverpool.

Liverpool set for Nike deal
According to reliable North West reporter Paul Joyce, New Balance have failed in their high court appeal.
That now means that a line has been drawn under the court case and Liverpool will now be free to negotiate deals elsewhere.
Furthermore, Joyce claims that Liverpool will have Nike as their official kit supplier next season.

New Balance’s attempts to appeal High Court verdict over kit deal rejected. Draws a line under legal case. Liverpool will go with Nike from next season.
— paul joyce (@_pauljoyce) November 1, 2019

As of now, there are no details about a potential deal with Nike but some have been reported in the past.
It was reported by Joyce back in September that Nike’s proposed deal with Liverpool would initially be £30million-a-year, which is £15million-a-year less than their current contract with New Balance.
However, it was said that ‘Liverpool believe Nike can “deliver far greater total revenue for the club than has been generated by the present deal with New Balance, because of the royalties that will be generated by Nike’s extensive distribution network”‘.

Jurgen Klopp hints that Fabinho could miss Aston Villa clash

Will Fabinho feature?
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has hinted that he could bench Brazilian midfielder Fabinho for the clash with Aston Villa this weekend.
Fabinho has been brilliant for Liverpool so far this season despite initial struggles adapting to the Premier League.
The Brazilian is now a mainstay in the Reds line-up but could be faced with a difficult task this weekend.
As Liverpool prepare to face Aston Villa, Fabinho is sat on four yellow cards in the Premier League.
That means that one more yellow card would see him miss a domestic game.
Unfortunately for Liverpool, it’s Manchester City up next in the Premier League and Fabinho would miss that game should he get booked this weekend.
Now, Jurgen Klopp has given his opinion on the situation.

Speaking ahead of the clash with Aston Villa, Klopp explained it was impossible for Fabinho not to tackle playing in his position.
As a result, he may have to ‘deal with it with the line-up’, presumably meaning he could bench the player.
“It’s not possible against Aston Villa, playing without challenges in that position,” Klopp explained, as quoted by the Mirror.
“You cannot ask for this. The player knows it, I know it.
“It’s information we have to deal with. Maybe he has to deal with it or I have to deal with it with the line-up.
“I didn’t make a decision yet, so we will see.”

The latest on Aston Villa’s Jack Grealish ahead of Liverpool

Aston Villa boss Dean Smith has this evening provided an update on the fitness of captain Jack Grealish, ahead of his side’s meeting with Liverpool.
Villa’s latest test
The Villans are set to welcome European champions Liverpool to Villa Park tomorrow afternoon.
Jurgen Klopp’s men will head into proceedings sitting pretty atop the Premier League table, having dropped just 2 points all season to this point.
Villa, on the other hand, sit 15th in the English top-flight, just 3 points clear of the relegation zone.
Dean Smith’s outfit, though, will actually enter the matchup amid a solid run of form.
The Claret and Blue have picked up wins in 3 of their last 4 fixtures across all competitions, with their solitary defeat during this run having come away at champions Manchester City.
Villa’s most recent outing, meanwhile, saw them put Wolves to the sword by 2 goals to 1 in the League Cup on Wednesday night.

Grealish boost
As such, ahead of what is no doubt set to prove a tough test for his side tomorrow afternoon, Dean Smith was this evening asked for a fitness update on his squad.
The main subject of discussion was Jack Grealish, with the Villa captain struggling with a calf issue.
In a boost to the Claret and Blue’s prospects this weekend, though, Smith confirmed that Grealish is back in training, and in contention to feature from the off versus Liverpool:

Jack Grealish (calf) has been training today “but he is still a little bit sore.” However, Dean Smith says the player “believes” he is in contention to start “and he wants to, and that’s the key thing.” Jota (hernia) remains on the sidelines.

Some Arsenal players ‘mercilessly’ mock Unai Emery – Independent

The sorry state of Arsenal football club
Some of the Arsenal squad reportedly mock manager Unai Emery behind his back, while younger players openly do impressions of the Spaniard.
It’s been a difficult season for Unai Emery.
Arsenal have struggled to build-up any momentum so far this season and have produced several poor performances in recent weeks.
Arsenal’s capitulation against Crystal Palace on Sunday didn’t help, with the Gunners giving up a 2-0 lead to draw 2-2.
The game before that Arsenal had also been beaten by newly-promoted Sheffield United.
Arsenal did impress to an extent in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday but threw away multiple two-goal leads and eventually lost to Liverpool on penalties.
Now, the extent of disarray among Arsenal’s squad has been laid bare in a new report.

Some Arsenal players “mercilessly take the piss out of” Emery
According to a report by the Independent’s Miguel Delaney, some Arsenal players “mercilessly take the piss out of” Unai Emery’s ‘good ebening’ quote.
It’s said that younger players are often doing impressions of the Arsenal boss, and they are ‘a lot more cynical’ than the light-hearted memes.
Delaney’s report claims: ‘Many of the club’s younger players now openly do impressions of Unai Emery, in a way that is a lot more cynical than those light-hearted “good ebening” internet memes.’
The report continues by explaining that the ‘good ebening’ meme is ‘one of many elements some of his squad will – in the words of one training ground source – “mercilessly take the p*** out of”.’
While it may be in jest, that’s not the actions of a squad looking to move forward together.
This also comes just days after Granit Xhaka had a feud with the Arsenal supporters.

Frank Lampard provides updates on Rudiger, Kante and more ahead of Chelsea’s meeting with Watford

Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has this evening provided fitness updates on a number of his squad’s stars, ahead of their meeting with Watford.
Watford vs Chelsea
The Blues are set to travel to Vicarage Road tomorrow, for the day’s late Premier League kick-off.
Lampard’s men will head into proceedings, unlike their opponents, amid a superb run of form of late.
While Watford are incredibly yet to notch a single league win to this point in the campaign, Chelsea have racked up 4 straight top-flight victories.
The latest of these came last weekend, when Christian Pulisic’s dazzling hat-trick guided the capital giants to a 4-2 win at Burnley.

The Pensioners, however, will actually be going in search of a bounce-back result tomorrow evening, having been ousted from the League Cup by Manchester United on Wednesday night.
Chelsea stars to miss out
As such, ahead of his side’s latest outing, Frank Lampard this evening provided a fitness update on Chelsea’s squad.
Despite their fine form of late, the Londoners have actually been dealing with a whole host of problems on the personnel front.
The likes of N’Golo Kante, Antonio Rudiger and Emerson have all spent time on the sidelines of late.
And Lampard subsequently confirmed that both Rudiger and Kante, along with Ross Barkley and Andreas Christensen, are set to miss out once again this weekend.
The latter trio, though, are all closing in on respective returns to the pitch:

Frank Lampard reports that Toni Rudiger is not fit for the Watford game and will see a consultant on Monday regarding a pelvic problem. N’Golo Kante may return for Ajax game. Ross Barkley and Andreas Christensen not far from returns.#WATCHE
— Chelsea FC (@ChelseaFC) November 1, 2019

Lampard was also drawn on which of his wide-men could partner Tammy Abraham in attack at Watford:

Lampard says it’s a tough decision this weekend over who to select from Pulisic, Hudson-Odoi, Willian & Pedro, but it’s competition which means players know they have to perform. That’s all from the boss here, but there will be more on The 5th Stand soon.#WATCHE

Man United reject Roma’s first bid to make Chris Smalling’s arrival permanent – Sky

As per a report from Sky Italia, AS Roma have fallen well short of Manchester United’s valuation with their opening offer for Chris Smalling.
Roma stint
English international Smalling had spent the last 9 years of his career on the books of Premier League giants Manchester United.
However, on the back of Harry Maguire’s big-money arrival from Leicester City over the summer, Smalling was deemed surplus to requirements by Red Devils boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
As such, on the back of weeks of speculation, the 29-year-old departed Old Trafford for Serie A outfit AS Roma at the end of August.
The stopper made the move to the Stadio Olimpico on loan for the 2019/20 campaign.

Smalling impressing
And, after struggling for game-time over the early weeks of his stint in the Italian capital, Smalling has since gone on to thoroughly-impress of late.
The former Fulham youngster has notched starts in 7 of Roma’s last 8 outings, forming a solid partnership alongside Gianluca Mancini.
He was also on the scoresheet as the Giallorossi romped to a 4-0 win at Udinese on Wednesday night.
Permanent Roma stay?
Smalling’s positive impression at the Stadio Olimpico thus far, meanwhile, has seen reports spread of late that the Roma board have already come to the decision to attempt to make the stopper’s transfer permanent.
The reliable Gianluca Di Marzio revealed last week that Smalling has ‘convinced everyone’ at the club, and that the capital giants have begun ‘working towards redemption at the end of the season’.

#Calciomercato, #Roma al lavoro per riscattare #Smalling a fine stagione: le ultimehttps://t.co/hs0QMqfZ81
— Gianluca Di Marzio (@DiMarzio) October 25, 2019

As per the aforementioned update courtesy of Sky Italia, though, Roma’s first attempts to find an agreement with Manchester United have been rebuffed.
An offer of £8.5 million is said to have been tabled on the part of the Serie A outfit.
However, this was firmly rejected by the board at Old Trafford, who are expected to demand closer to £17 million for Smalling.

Unai Emery confirms Granit Xhaka will not feature for Arsenal vs Wolves

Arsenal manager Unai Emery has this afternoon confirmed that he does not intend to utilise Granit Xhaka for the club’s meeting with Wolves tomorrow, on the back of the fallout following the Swiss midfielder’s controversial actions versus Crystal Palace last weekend.
Palace fight back for a point
The Gunners welcomed Roy Hodgson’s Eagles to the Emirates last Sunday evening, for a Premier League clash.
Hosts Arsenal headed into proceedings in search of an immediate bounce-back result, after being put to the sword by Sheffield United in disappointing fashion last Monday night.
When the 90 minutes were said and done in north London, however, the capital giants’ woes only heightened.
After taking a 2-0 lead inside the opening 10 minutes versus Palace, the Gunners were eventually pegged for a 2-2 draw.
Sokratis Papastathopoulos and David Luiz had set up what looked set to be a comfortable evening’s work for Arsenal, but goals from Luka Milivojević and Jordan Ayew either side of the interval (followed by the questionable intervention of VAR) eventually saw Unai Emery’s men forced to settle for a point.
Highlights: Arsenal 2-2 Crystal Palace

Xhaka controversy
Arsenal’s capitulation, however, actually didn’t prove the main talking point stemming from Sunday’s matchup at the Emirates.
This surrounded the actions of Gunners captain Granit Xhaka.
With the scoreline at 2-2, and an hour on the clock, Unai Emery opted to replace his side’s skipper with Bukayo Saka, in search of a greater attacking presence.
Xhaka’s number flashing across the 4th official’s board was quickly met by a chorus of sarcastic cheers, followed by heavy booing, on the part of the home crowd.
And the Swiss midfielder, clearly aggravated by both the scoreline and Arsenal’s supporters, subsequently allowed his emotions to get the better of him:

This feels like a landmark moment for Xhaka and #afc fans. His substitution is greeted by cheers, he’s then booed as he walks off (instead of running with the score at 2-2). He then cups his ear to the crowd, shouts “f*** off”, takes his shirt off and walks down the tunnel.
— James Olley (@JamesOlley) October 27, 2019

‘Not going to play’
As such, Xhaka has since unsurprisingly been singled out for heavy criticism on the part of the Arsenal faithful, amid calls for the 27-year-old to be dropped, and stripped of the club’s captaincy.
He was completely omitted from the Gunners squad that fell to Liverpool in the League Cup on Wednesday night, with it having since remained unclear whether or not Unai Emery would opt to recall the Swiss international to face Wolves.
The Arsenal boss, though, has this afternoon provided an update on the situation.
Speaking in a press conference ahead of welcoming Wolves to the Emirates in 24 hours’ time, Emery confirmed that he does not intend to make use of Xhaka in his side’s latest fixture:
‘The first is the person, the human. Like everyone he feels, Xhaka, with his issues, needs time to recover normality.’
‘He said sorry, he gave the apology to the supporters and to everybody. Now is the focus on the match.’
‘We were waiting on Monday and Tuesday (to sort out the captaincy).’
‘It is not in my mind that he will play tomorrow. I am thinking tomorrow he is not going to play.’
‘Now we need to be focused 100 per cent only on the match. We are going to do the training today but at the moment it is not in my mind.’

Fantasy Premier League 2019/20 Gameweek 11: Three in, three out

Fantasy Premier League Gameweek 11 kicks off on Saturday the 2nd of November at 12:30 pm UK time when Bournemouth play host to Manchester United
Gameweek 11 will end on Sunday the 3rd of November, with Everton traveling to Tottenham
So, all of your transfers for GW11 need to be done by 11:30 am UK time on Saturday.
But if you are struggling to choose who to sign and who to sell this week, here are some tips.
Three in including Leicester forward
Jamie Vardy (9.3)
Leicester have hit the ground running under Brendan Rodgers in the 2019/20 campaign.
The Foxes are currently up to 3rd in the English top-flight and just two points adrift of 2nd place Manchester City.
One of Leicester’s standout stars this season has been Jamie Vardy.
The veteran striker has netted nine in the Premier League already this season, including a hat-trick in Leicester’s 9-0 demolition of Southampton last week.
Vardy is also now the top forward on FPL with a very solid 74 points.
He is also a fair beat cheaper than the likes of Harry Kane, Sergio Aguero and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
Leicester are away to Crystal Palace this weekend, which may be a fairly tough test but with the form Vardy is in, there is a good chance he will be among the goals again.

Tammy Abraham (7.8)
Tammy Abraham had an emphatic start to the season with Chelsea.
The young forward’s goal contributions have dipped off a bit in recent weeks, scoring just one and assisting one in his last five PL appearances.
However, Chelsea are facing Watford this game week.
The Hornets have had a dismal start to the new campaign and are still yet to pick up a single victory.
So, it should be the perfect game for Abraham to rediscover his goalscoring boots.
LONDON, ENGLAND – AUGUST 31: Tammy Abraham of Chelsea celebrates after scoring his team’s second goal during the Premier League match between Chelsea FC and Sheffield United at Stamford Bridge on August 31, 2019 in London, United Kingdom. (Photo by Clive Rose/Getty Images)
Sadio Mane (11.9)
Sadio Mane has provided just one assist and no goals in his last two league outings for Liverpool.
However, the winger didn’t feature for Liverpool in the League Cup earlier this week so he should be well-rested for the upcoming clash with Aston Villa this game week.
Villa have had a decent start to life back in the Premier League and are currently 15th in the table.
But Dean Smith’s side are not the best at keeping clean sheets.
In fact, Villa are without a clean sheet in their last five PL clashes, which included games against struggling sides such as Norwich and Brighton.
So, given how deadly Mane can be when he is on form, having him in your side this week may be a good idea.
It is also potentially worth naming him as your captain for GW11.

Three out including Man City defender
Nicolas Otamendi (5.5)
When both Aymeric Laporte and John Stones were out injured Nicolas Otamendi seemed like a solid option for your FPL side as there was a good chance he would be playing each week.
However, Stones is now back and Otamendi has not featured in City’s last two league ties.
The Argentine was injured for one of those matches but with Stones now back and Fernandinho doing a solid job as centre-back cover, perhaps it is time to move Otamendi on.
An ideal replacement for Otamendi would be Sheffield United’s John Lundstram.
The Sheff United man will cost you just 4.7 and is the second-best defender on FPL.
Chris Wood (6.2)
Chris Wood has been in fine form for Burnley recently.
Before missing Burnley’s defeat to Chelsea, Wood would net four goals in four Premier League outings.
And at just 6.2, looked as though he could be a solid choice for your FPL side.
However, Sean Dyche spoke about Wood in his pre-match press conference on Thursday, stating he is a doubt for the weekend.

Sean Dyche confirms that striker Chris Wood remains a doubt for the weekend game @SheffieldUnited, as does Phil Bardsley.
JBG still absent
— Burnley FC (@BurnleyOfficial) October 31, 2019

Lucas Digne (5.9)
Lucas Digne was a solid choice on FPL last season and proved a fairly popular pick at the beginning of this campaign.
However, Everton have not had a great start to the season and are currently just two points above the relegation zone.
Digne has also not been at his best, failing to provide a goal contribution in his last six PL appearances.
The Frenchman also earned -1 points last game week after scoring an own goal.

Kolasinac admits Arsenal teammate Ozil ‘is a bit unhappy at the minute’

Kolasinac on Ozil
Mesut Ozil has not had the greatest start to the 2019/20 campaign.
Before the Liverpool game earlier this week, the German was omitted from Arsenal’s previous six matchday squads.
However, Unai Emery finally gave the midfield maestro some minutes on Wednesday.
Ozil started in Arsenal’s League Cup tie at Anfield and was arguably their standout star, providing two assists.
Ozil was somewhat surprisingly subbed 65 minutes into the clash but Emery explained afterwards that they had decided before the game to play Ozil for that period of time.
Now, one of Ozil’s Arsenal teammates Sead Kolasinac has been speaking about the midfielder, stating he is a bit unhappy at the minute.
Kolasinac also claimed that Ozil is doing extra sessions to make sure he is at the level he needs to be at:
“Mesut is a really driven player.
“He is a bit unhappy at the minute but you would never see that in his training. He is doing everything he can. He is doing extra sessions to make sure he is at the level he needs to be.” As quoted by the Evening Standard.

Ozil to feature vs Wolves?
Arsenal are now set to take on Wolves on Saturday at the Emirates.
The North London outfit begin the weekend 5th in the English top-flight but they could move as low as 10th, should they fail to see off Wolves.
After such an exemplary display vs Liverpool, it would probably not be the best idea for Emery to omit Arsenal from Saturday’s matchday squad.
And it doesn’t sound like the Spaniard will be doing so. When speaking about Ozil after Liverpool, Emery stated they will look at the possibility of using the 31-year-old again:
“He was very positive every time and I think he played a very good match.
“We have a match on Saturday and we will look at the possibility to use him again alongside other players and this is the way sometimes.” As quoted by the Evening Standard.

Man United waiting on fitness of three players ahead of Bournemouth

Bournemouth vs Man United
Manchester United will travel to Bournemouth to begin match week 11 of the 2019/20 Premier League season.
United head into the tie in fairly decent form across all competitions.
The Red Devil’s last outing saw them see off Chelsea in the League Cup earlier this week.
United would also put an end to their dismal league away last weekend when they put Norwich to the sword by three goals to one.
After picking up three away wins in a row vs Partizan, Norwich and Chelsea, United are now looking to make it four out of four vs Bournemouth.
The Cherries head into the tie 9th in the league having lost just one of their last five, although three of those games have been draws.
You can view 101’s betting tips for the match here.

Solskjaer on Maguire, Rashford & Lindelof
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer would hold his pre-Bournemouth press conference on Friday.
When speaking to the media, Solskjaer confirmed United are still waiting on the fitness of three players.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says Manchester United are waiting on the fitness of three players ahead of the match at Bournemouth on Saturday.
Those players are Harry Maguire, Marcus Rashford and Victor Lindelof, who are all said to have picked up slight knocks in midweek vs Chelsea, as per Man United’s official website.
But Solskjaer is still hopeful he can get the trio back on the pitch vs Bournemouth:
“It’s still early. Hopefully we can get them back on the pitch tomorrow.
“They got some treatment yesterday, a little bit more treatment today, a light session and hopefully they’re ready. I can’t tell you exactly now.” As quoted by Man United’s official website.

Steve Bruce gives injury updates on Newcastle trio ahead of West Ham

West Ham vs Newcastle
Newcastle are set to face off with West Ham United on Saturday afternoon.
The Magpies head into the tie in fairly poor form.
Steve Bruce’s men have won just two of their opening 10 Premier League outings so far this season and as a result, they begin the weekend just one point adrift of the relegation zone.
As for West Ham, they are 10th in the PL but their recent form has been rather poor.
Manuel Pellegrini’s side are without a win in their last four league matches.

Bruce on Schar, Carroll & Ritchie
Prior to facing off with Newcastle, Steve Bruce held his pre-match press conference on Friday morning.
During the press conference, Bruce gave an injury update on three Newcastle players.
Bruce confirmed that Andy Carroll has trained the last couple of days and will come back into the squad.
But it is too early for both Fabian Schar and Matt Ritchie:
“Andy Carroll has trained the last couple of days, so he’ll come back into the squad. It’s still too early for Matt Ritchie and Fabian Schär.”
Bruce then claimed Schar could be ok for Bournemouth next weekend:
“He could be OK for Bournemouth (next Saturday). He’s been sore with his knee for a while, but we don’t think it’s too serious.”

Juventus closely watching Man United’s Tahith Chong – Mail

Chong & Man United
Tahith Chong is a product of Manchester United’s youth system.
The talented winger has played 28 games across all competitions for Man United’s under-23 side, in which he has scored 11 and assisted three.
Chong has also slowly begun to earn some first-team football with the Red Devils.
The 19-year-old was handed his United senior debut back in January of 2019 vs Reading, coming off the bench in an FA Cup clash.
In total, Chong has now featured eight times for Man United’s first-team, the latest of which being a four-minute sub appearance in Man United’s loss to Newcastle.

Juve eyeing Chong
But Man United could be set to lose their young star in the near future.
Chong is out of contract at Old Trafford in July of 2020.
As a result, United could lose him for free in the summer of 2020.
Serie A giants Juventus are a side reportedly looking to take advantage of Chong’s contract situation.
According to the Daily Mail, Juventus are closely watching the Man United youngster.
Man Unite faced a similar issue with Paul Pogba in his first spell at the club.
The Frenchman would join Juve for free before United eventually paid big money to re-sign him, something they should be hoping to avoid with Chong.

Man United & Juve head queue of more than 20 clubs monitoring Haaland – Guardian

Salzburg standout
Erling Haaland made the switch to RB Salzburg in January of 2019 from Molde FK.
Salzburg are said to have paid around £4.5m for Haaland’s services.
Haaland didn’t play too much football during his first half-season with the Austrian outfit but the 2019/20 campaign has seen Haaland impressing both domestically and in Europe.
The 19-year-old has taken the Austrian Bundesliga by storm, scoring 12 and assisting six in 10 outings so far this season.
Haaland has also been in superb form for Salzburg in the Champions League.
The young forward has already scored six in three appearances in this season’s competition, including one vs Liverpool.
Haaland was also named Champions League Player of the Week back in September after bagging a hat-trick vs Genk.

Congratulations to Erling Haaland: @RedBullSalzburg‘s hat-trick hero is Player of the Week! #POTW | @FTBSantander

Man United linked
After such an emphatic start to the new season, it should be no surprise to hear a host of top European clubs are watching Haaland.
And according to Fabrizio Romano writing for the Guardian, Manchester United and Juventus head a queue of more than 20 clubs monitoring the progress of Haaland.
Romano claims RB Salzburg are open to selling the sought after youngster in the summer.
United are also said to have scouted Haaland on several occasions with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer also working with him during his time at Molde boss, as per Romano.

Flores provides Watford team news update before Chelsea

Watford vs Chelsea
Watford will play host to Chelsea in Saturday’s late Premier League kick-off.
Despite match week 11 of the Premier League season being just around the corner, Watford are still yet to pick up a victory in the league this campaign.
The Hornets have drawn five and lost five of their opening 10 PL ties and currently sit dead bottom of the English top-flight.
That winless run is unlikely to come to an end this weekend either.
Chelsea are flying high under the management of Frank Lampard and head into Saturday 4th in the league, just two points adrift of second-place Manchester City.
Check out 101’s betting tips for Watford vs Chelsea here.

Watford team news
Ahead of Watford vs Chelsea, Quique Sanchez Flores has provided a team news update on his squad.
As per Watford’s official website, Flores reported that Isaac Success and possibly Etienne Capoue could be in contention to face Chelsea on Saturday:
The Head Coach reported that Isaac Success and possibly Étienne Capoue, who is “not 100 per cent”, could be in contention to face the Blues in the 5.30pm kick-off at Vicarage Road.”
Flores also confirmed Tom Cleverly has a little problem with his heel:
